Should you buy an AK ...
May 31, 2022
Should you buy an AK in 5.56? First off, I have other 7.62 AKMs, but now this newly acquired Zpap85 and also an M90. This Zpap85 is amazingly fun and flat to shoot! Not a single hiccup so far, but with only 200+ rounds tho. I got this NATO AK in case 762 steel ammo becomes less avaliable in years to come...
As for mags, I'll start with the ones that didn't require any mods. The OEM steel/polymer Zmags were flawless along with AC unity mags. The mags that did require some filing or very tight fitting were both the WBP 20rd/30rd mags and also the FB radom ones. I did try some 545 AK74 mags and then used POD Arms 556 followers and they worked really well. The different 545 mags I converted for this Zpap85 were TULA plum/bakelites, German bakes, and Bulgarian polymer mags. Although, just an FYI, 545 Pmags or 545 steel mags do not work with POD Arms followers.
So, I hope this review helps clarify my initial question on buying an AK in 5.56. Cheers!
